I have read endless things from scholarly articles, text books, to words from healers and super spiritual approaches to trauma, nightmares, etc. This book is one of the best. It is just scientific enough and just "woo woo" enough to give a well rounded perspective, and like another reviewer said, endlessly kind and comforting. It validates the reader while also offering solutions. The author offers examples and theories while still validating the reader's experience and process. It has everything I could want in a book like this that I have found lacking in others.

I am surprised it is not more popular. I have passed it on to others.

This book is a treasure. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and recovering now as an adult, I find it extremely comforting and helpful. It is written in a gentle tone, has many helpful suggestions of exercises to do as well as explanations about trauma. I return to it again and again to help me with increasing self-care, self-compassion and extending kindness towards myself. I wholeheartedly recommend it as a validating and comforting healing companion that will help you to be kind to yourself as you heal from abuse.
Wellspring of Compassion is a refreshingly kind, practical and compassionate guide to the difficult inner landscape of trauma and recovery. Each chapter invites the reader to start from where they are as they identify and work through difficult emotions and memories.

Written for anyone who has suffered trauma in the recent or distant past, the book gives support and practical guidance to those who are ready to begin their own recovery, or to deepen their recovery by neutralizing old triggers. I was surprised that the book touched on all the areas I've studied over the years, and it answered lingering questions about a harsh inner critic, anxiety, flashbacks, dissociation, anger, shame, and why boundaries are so difficult for people who have suffered trauma.

The author, Sonia Connolly, is well-acquainted with all the facets of trauma and is trained in Somatic Experiencing, based on Peter Levine's work with trauma. Her topics and suggestions create a thread that ties together the different manifestations of trauma, with insight and information drawn from both personal experience and many experts in the field.

Wellspring of Compassion provides a masterful view of the many facets of trauma, while at the same time offering kindness, compassion and warmth. Non-judgmental and non-clinical, Wellspring of Compassion will give you the tools and resources to shift from mere survival to being able to compassionately reconnect with yourself, your body, and your life.

I have this book perpetually open on my iPad. I love the chapters about what to do when you're triggered right now and you need emotional support. But really, every chapter is a winner. I've read it completely three times now. Lots of great references to more reading at the end of each chapter.
Another very well written book about sensitive people. It now has a permanent place in my personal library.
Wellspring of Compassion offers a solid foundation for understanding impacts of trauma as well as many approaches to lovingly tending those wounds. I appreciated the opportunity to explore aspects of trauma healing in novel ways double binds, longing, shame, and even housework! I waded slowly through these and other sections that evoked both new and familiar feelings and sensations wanting my attention. Sonia Connolly’s respectful writing style gently offers space for these explorations into more fully understanding the complexities of transformational healing after trauma. I found it useful to keep a journal nearby to let myself dive more deeply into topics. Connolly has formatted the book into helpful sections, short chapters, resource lists, and bold text for key concepts, all of which creates content that is more manageable for readers. This is especially helpful for making Wellspring of Compassion accessible to trauma survivors coping in-the-moment with a trauma trigger or flashback.

I highly recommend this book to those new to trauma healing as well as to those who have been healing for years. Reach for Wellspring of Compassion when you are in doubt or pain. Let yourself be nourished by the creative approaches and heart-centered acceptance that flow through and from this book.
